Cathay Pacific Upgrades Vancouver–Hong Kong to A350-1000 with New Business Class

Cathay Pacific's Vancouver–Hong Kong service switches to the A350-1000 from May 2026, bringing the airline's new Aria Suite business class and 40% more premium economy seats.

Cathay Pacific is upgrading its Vancouver–Hong Kong (YVR–HKG) route to the Airbus A350-1000 from May 5, 2026. The change brings the airline's new Aria Suite business class product — a fully flat, door-equipped seat with a sliding privacy door — to the Canada–Hong Kong corridor for the first time.

What Changes on This Route

  • Aircraft: Boeing 777-300ER replaced by A350-1000 (all flights from May 5, 2026)
  • Business class: New Aria Suite — fully enclosed, lie-flat, direct-aisle access, 1-2-1 layout
  • Premium Economy: 40% more seats (28 vs 20), wider recline
  • Economy: 4-3-4 becomes 3-3-3, wider seats
  • Frequency: Maintained at daily service year-round

Why This Matters for Canadians

The A350-1000 switch makes the YVR–HKG segment one of the highest-spec transpacific routes operated from Canada. Business class fares on this route average CAD $5,000–$6,500 round trip, and the Aria Suite represents a significant upgrade over the outgoing 777 Cirrus suite product.

Cathay Pacific's Hong Kong hub connects to 20+ cities across mainland China, Southeast Asia, and South Asia. For Canadians travelling onward beyond Hong Kong — to Bangalore, Chennai, Jakarta, or Taipei — this routing is now substantially more comfortable.

Existing bookings in Cathay's Cirrus business class cabin on this route will be automatically re-accommodated in Aria Suite at no additional charge. Passengers with advance bookings should confirm their new seat selection via the Cathay website.
