Mumbai, India's financial capital and Bollywood home, is a city of contrasts. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport handles millions of passengers yearly, connecting to domestic and international destinations.
Explore the Gateway of India, Marine Drive's stunning waterfront, and the vibrant street food scene. Mumbai's local train network is an experience in itself, and the nightlife is among India's best.
October through February offers the most comfortable weather. The monsoon season (June-September) brings heavy rains but also lush greenery and fewer tourists.
Toronto Pearson (YYZ) is Canada's busiest airport with two terminals. Terminal 1 handles most international flights on Air Canada and Star Alliance, while Terminal 3 serves WestJet and some other carriers.
The UP Express train connects Pearson to downtown Union Station in 25 minutes. Alternatively, the TTC bus #192 connects to Kipling subway station.
Arrive 3 hours before international flights, 2 hours for US flights (with pre-clearance), and 90 minutes for domestic.
The YYZ–BOM corridor is served exclusively via connecting hubs — no carrier currently operates a nonstop between Toronto and Mumbai, though Air India had operated the route intermittently in prior years and its return has been discussed with the induction of additional A350 long-range capacity. Current connections route via: Air India (YYZ–DEL–BOM on AI connecting domestic leg), Emirates (YYZ–DXB–BOM), Lufthansa (YYZ–FRA–BOM), and Air France (YYZ–CDG–BOM). The DEL–BOM domestic connection is a separate Air India domestic segment that operates under domestic fare rules — baggage allowances drop to 15 kg checked for domestic Indian sectors unless the international ticket is extended with interline endorsement.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) completed its Terminal 2 (T2) renovation in 2014. All international arrivals and departures operate from T2; the old T1 handles exclusively domestic traffic. Passengers connecting from an international flight to a domestic Indian carrier should allow at minimum 3 hours for immigration, customs, baggage reclaim, and re-check for the domestic sector — there is no common-use sterile transit facility at BOM equivalent to Singapore Changi or Dubai.
Baggage on Air India YYZ–DEL–BOM itinerary
AI's international 2×23 kg PC allowance applies YYZ to DEL. DEL–BOM on an AI domestic connecting ticket: 15 kg checked baggage (Economy domestic India). When booked as a single AI international ticket with BOM as the final destination and DEL as the connection point, AI may extend international allowance through to BOM — confirm at time of booking by reviewing the fare conditions.
Excess baggage from the international sector cannot be checked through on domestic Air India if the allowances differ. Passengers frequently encounter this at DEL — plan to drop excess bags at courier services in the DEL international arrivals hall if the domestic allowance will be exceeded.
